LESSON PLANS: GRADES 6-8

connecting with nature: an educational guide for grades seven and eight

2/18/2016

The David Suzuki Foundation is a science-based organization committed to helping Canadians act on the understanding that people are all interconnected and interdependent with nature — and each other. Connecting With Nature: An Educational Guide for Grades Seven and Eight provides cross-curricular lesson plans for classroom and outdoor experiences that link children with nature. The 2014 guide was created and written by staff from the David Suzuki Foundation and the Toronto District School Board. The guide includes eight lesson plans and handouts. The lessons are:
  • Mapping nature in your community
  • Introducing ecosystem services
  • Discovering the ecosystem services around us
  • Taking action for ecosystems
  • Sharing the air we breathe
  • Completing a waste audit of your school
  • Water filtration and clean drinking water
  • Capturing the energy of the sun
