hudson valley seed
Every week, Hudson Valley Seed presents innovative, experiential and project-based food education to K-5 students at the Garrison School. Utilizing school gardens, Hudson Valley Seed offers curriculum-integrated lessons focused on healthy eating, food literacy, outdoor learning, and academic success. The organization began working with the Garrison School in March 2014.
Hudson Valley Seed and the Garrison School celebrated Earth Day by breaking ground for a new vegetable garden on April 21 and 22, 2016. The garden is located on the school grounds adjacent to the upper parking lot. Through experiential visits to the garden, students learn math, science, English, how to prepare food, and how to make healthy eating choices. |

Students also create art projects based on a vegetable of the month. Hudson Valley Seed works closely with teachers to integrate nutrition education with New York State’s Common Core standards. A grant from the Garrison Children's Education Fund provides partial support for this program.
